3 Pronounced Dead, James Coughlin Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Accident near Washtucna

ADAMS COUNTY, WA (July 11, 2023) – Friday afternoon, a head-on collision took the lives of Mark Nieman, Natasha Nieman, and Diane Coughlin.

Authorities responded around 1:25 p.m., on the eastbound lanes of SR 26 about 19 miles west of Washtucna on June 30th.

Per reports, 53-year-old Mark was heading east in a 1999 Ford Ranger and veered across the center line into oncoming traffic. As a result, he collided head-on with a westbound 2019 Ford Edge.

Medical personnel arrived and transported the driver of the Ford, 65-year-old James Coughlin to East Adams Rural Healthcare for treatment.

Meanwhile, crews pronounced the passenger of the Ford, 68-year-old Diane Coughlin, dead at the scene. Paramedics also pronounced Mark and his passenger, 24-year-old Natasha Nieman dead at the scene.

Officers closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
