35-Year-Old Pedestrian Dead, One Arrested after Vehicle Collision near Glendale Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (June 15, 2023) – Saturday night, police responded to a DUI crash that claimed the life of Ricardo Martinez.

On June 10th, just before 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched near 43rd and Glendale avenues involving a pedestrian crash.

According to the Phoenix police, they arrived at the scene and found 35-year-old Martinez on top of the vehicle.

Investigation showed that Martinez attempted to cross Glendale Avenue mid-block when he was struck by the vehicle headed eastbound.

Consequently, Martinez was taken to the hospital with significant injuries where he was later pronounced dead.

Furthermore, the driver, identified as 47-year-old Matthew Rhoades, remained at the scene and was assessed by the authorities.

Rhoades was determined to be impaired at that time and he was taken into custody.

Following the events, Rhoades was charged with aggravated DUI for driving impaired with a suspended driving privilege.

No other details were released and the crash is still under investigation.
