31-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Three-Vehicle Collision near Interstate 680

CONCORD, CA (May 22, 2023) – Late Thursday afternoon, Taylor Bustos was killed and two others were injured in a 3-car accident on Highway 4.

Dispatchers received calls in the area around 5:50 p.m., on the eastbound lanes of Highway 4 near Interstate 680.

According to reports, the driver of a gray Toyota Highlander struck the back of a silver Toyota Camry that was stopped for traffic. Upon impact, the Camry was pushed through a concrete divider and struck a gray Mazda 3.

Emergency personnel rushed the Camry driver to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Contra Costa County coroner’s office identified the deceased victim as 31-year-old Bustos, of Pittsburg.

Meanwhile, the driver and passenger from the Highlander suffered minor injuries while the Mazda driver remained uninjured. 

California Highway Patrol eventually issued a SigAlert around 6:08 p.m., and advised motorists to avoid the area as crews cleared the scene. Those with additional information can contact the CHP Contra Costa Office at (925) 646-4980. Once available, further details will be provided.
