Ralph Ellsworth White III Arrested after Fatal Two-Car Crash on Interstate 80 [Hercules, CA]
Two-Vehicle Collision near Willow Avenue Kills Mother and Injures Two Children
HERCULES, CA (March 28, 2023) – Thursday evening, Ralph Ellsworth White III was arrested following a stolen vehicle crash along Interstate 80.
Initially, a stolen 2021 Mazda SUV was reported around 7:27 p.m. heading toward Hercules on eastbound I-80.
Afterward, police initiated a pursuit after one of the officers spotted the stolen Mazda exit the highway onto the northbound Willow Avenue. The fleeing suspect collided with a 2017 Nissan going south on Willow Avenue.
Authorities managed to detain the suspect, 20-year-old Ralph Ellsworth White III of Vallejo, after he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Unfortunately, the 31-year-old mother of twin boys driving the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her two 6-year-old boys were transported to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
At this time, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office along with the Sheriff’s Office and CHP continues to investigate the incident. Hercules Officials will provide more information once available.
