Two-Vehicle Accident on State Highway 18 Left One Man Dead

APPLE VALLEY, CA (January 26, 2023) – Sunday morning, a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18 claimed the life of an Apple Valley man, Byron Weekly.

The accident occurred at around 6:03 a.m. near Flathead Road on January 22nd, per initial reports.

According to the CHP, a westbound black 2015 Dodge approaching Flathead Road and a northbound red 2016 Kia Sorento collided at the intersection.

Authorities are still unsure about which vehicle failed to stop at the traffic light and caused the collision.

Paramedics took both drivers to St. Mary’s hospital, where the driver of the Kia died from his injuries. Officers later identified the deceased as 86-year-old Byron Weekly.

Moreover, the Dodge driver suffered minor injuries. Authorities have withheld his identity at this time.

Furthermore, the crash temporarily closed the area surrounding Highway 18 as clearing and preliminary duties took place. The roadway has since been reopened.
