25 Law Enforcement Recruits Hurt in Pedestrian Collision near Trumball Street

WHITTIER, CA (November 18, 2022) – Early Wednesday morning, 25 law-enforcement recruits were struck in a wrong-way accident on Mills Avenue.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m., near Trumball Street on November 16th.

For reasons under investigation, 75 recruits were training when the 22-year-old driver of a wrong-way vehicle drove straight into them.

Investigators say 16 recruits suffered minor injuries, 4 were in moderate condition, and 5 were in critical state. Video footage from the scene shows the recruits running in formation as the driver was traveling directly towards them at a high rate of speed.

After striking multiple pedestrians, the vehicle came to rest after crashing into a traffic police officer. Medics treated the suspect with minor injuries before he was arrested and detained by police.

Also, all the injured recruits were expected to be okay.

Simply by driving defensively and following the conditions of the road, you can prevent a reckless driving accident. Do not engage in any non-driving activity which creates a potential distraction. Follow the speed limit and maintain focus on the road. By doing so, you can help keep yourself and others around you safe.
