High-Speed Police Chase Resulted in Collision near 16th Avenue

KINGS COUNTY, CA (October 27, 2022) – Friday night, police arrested Andrew Diaz after a police pursuit ended in a crash on Jersey Avenue. 

The initial chase started around 11:30 p.m. after a sheriff’s deputy heard a gunshot at Jersey Avenue and 16th Avenue.

According to deputies, they spotted a northbound Kia Optima going at a high rate of speed. When the authorities tried to pull over the vehicle, the driver did not comply, which initiated the pursuit. 

Deputies ended the pursuit for safety reasons, although the Kia driver continued, running cars off the road and hitting a motorcyclist. Responding medical personnel transported the rider to a hospital after sustaining moderate injuries. 

Eventually, the suspect, 19-year-old Diaz, reached the area north of Irwin St. of Hanford, where he crashed his vehicle into a center divider. Diaz and his 19-year-old female passenger attempted to flee on foot but were immediately arrested by the authorities. 

A vehicle search by the deputies revealed an AR-15-style rifle; three 30-round magazines, and ammunition inside the suspect’s vehicle. 

In the end, officials booked Andrew Diaz in Kings County Jail for multiple charges. His bail was set to $125,000.
