Traffic Collision near Hosking Avenue Claimed the Life of One Pedestrian
BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 20, 2022) – Thursday evening, an unidentified woman died following a pedestrian collision on Highway 99.
The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m. southbound Highway 99 to Hosking Avenue.
According to the CHP, a female pedestrian, for unknown reasons, walked into the path of a GMC truck traveling southbound of the highway.
The GMC driver, J. Sanchez, 45, of Bakersfield, tried to avoid hitting the woman but the left side of the vehicle struck the woman.
Responding paramedics arrived and pronounced one woman dead at the scene due to the extent of her injuries. Authorities withheld the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.
Furthermore, the collision shut down the southbound I-99, leading to Hosking Avenue, for two hours as officials cleared the area.
At this time, it is unknown whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is currently underway.
