John Steven Alvarez Sr. Killed, Caroll Landers, Douglas Warren and William Hughes Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 20 [Upper Lake, CA]

One Dead, Three Injured in Head-On Collision near Bachelor Valley Road

UPPER LAKE, CA (August 23, 2022) – Thursday evening, John Steven Alvarez Sr. was killed and three were hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 20.

The incident happened just before 5:00 p.m., near Bachelor Valley Road on August 18th.

Per reports, 64-year-old Douglas Warren was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup-truck east on the highway when he crossed over the center line for reasons unknown. As a result, he collided head-on with a westbound tractor trailer.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced Warren’s passenger, 68-year-old Alvarez, of Nice dead at the scene. Crews also identified another passenger inside the pickup as 58-year-old William Hughes, of Willits.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported Warren and Hughes to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries.

Officers also located the 2019 Volvo tractor trailer driven by 75-year-old Caroll Landers, of Yuba City. Investigators say Landers sustained minor injuries.

Crews closed Highway 20 for approximately three hours during cleanup and preliminary duties.
