Aislyn Tejeda Dead, Irving Rodriguez-Barraza Arrested after Fatal DUI Crash on Shafter Avenue [Buttonwillow, CA]

1-Year-Old Killed, Jesus Sanchez, Cruz Olvera and Joanna Figueroa Hurt in Car Accident on Burbank Street

BUTTONWILLOW, CA (July 27, 2022) – Saturday afternoon, Aislyn Tejeda died and Irving Rodriguez-Barraza was arrested after a crash on Shafter Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 4:30 p.m., near the intersection of Shafter Avenue and Burbank Street.

Investigators said that 22-year-old Rodriguez-Barraza was driving a Dodge Ram when he ran past a stop sign while going northbound on Shafter Avenue. The Ram collided with the left side of a Jeep Cherokee driven by 29-year-old Jesus Tejada Sanchez. The force of the impact caused the Jeep to hit two power poles and an almond tree.

Police later identified the others involved in the crash. They were Cruz Carrillo Olvera, a passenger in the Ram; and Joanna Figueroa and a 1-year-old child, later identified as Aislyn and a 6-year-old child, who were passengers in the Jeep.

Medics transported all six victims to Kern Medical for treatment of moderate to severe injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, crews later pronounced 1-year-old Tejeda, dead at the hospital.

Following preliminary investigations, Buttonwillow officials later arrested Rodriguez-Barraza for suspicion of DUI.

In addition, family members of Villarreal have created a GoFundMe to support her family’s medical bills.
