Traffic Accident near 70th Street Left Homeless Man Dead

LA MESA, CA (July 20, 2022) – On Saturday, a fatal pedestrian crash on University Avenue claimed the life of an elderly homeless man.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. near University Avenue and 70th Street.

According to police, the 68-year-old homeless man was walking in the area, when he was struck by a vehicle. At this time, officials have not released his name pending notification of next of kin.

La Mesa officials closed down the surrounding area for cleanup and preliminary duties.

Meanwhile, the 58-year-old driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
