Woman Dead after Three-Vehicle Accident near Cactus Road
PHOENIX, AZ (May 31, 2022) – Early Monday morning, a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 17 claimed the life of Iwanda Mitchell.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the highway near Cactus Road.
Per reports, the collision occurred after a woman in a Toyota Camry ran out of gas and called for help. Before crews arrived, a Tesla struck the Toyota.
The 49-year-old Telsa driver then exited the vehicle before a Honda Pilot crashed into the Telsa and female driver. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced Iwanda Mitchell, of Ahwatukee dead at the scene.
In addition, paramedics also transported the Toyota driver to a local hospital for further treatment.
Authorities temporarily closed the surrounding area in northbound lanes, as an active investigation is underway.
