2 Men Killed, Adam Alvarez Hurt in Two-Vehicle Accident near Lerdo Highway
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 16, 2022) – Early Saturday evening, Jose Wuilver Rodas Cruz and Jose Mario Gomez Mendoza were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 33.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:00 p.m., just north of Lerdo Highway.
Investigators said the collision involved a black Toyota pickup-truck and a black four-door sedan.
Per reports, two men were in a 2009 Honda traveling north on the highway when the driver lost control and swerved into the southbound lanes. As a result, the Honda collided head-on with a 2003 Toyota driven by Adam Alvarez, 36, of Corona.
Medics responded and pronounced two victims dead at the scene, due to the extent of their condition. Authorities later identified the deceased men as 22-year-old Jose Wuilver Rodas Cruz, and 53-year-old Jose Mario Gomez Mendoza.
In addition, Alvarez suffered moderate injuries.
Following preliminary duties, crews say Cruz was the driver, and Mendoza was the passenger. At this time, Bakersfield Officials continue to investigate the deadly head-on crash.
