Erick Omar Gonzalez-Vasquez Fatally Struck on 580 Freeway [San Rafael, CA]

21-Year-Old Killed in Deadly Accident near Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

SAN RAFAEL, CA (March 1, 2022) – Late Saturday night, Erick Omar Gonzalez-Vasquez was fatally struck in a collision on 580 Freeway.

According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:44 p.m. on February 19. Dispatchers arrived near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

As per reports, California Highway Patrol officers said Gonzalez-Vasquez was found lying on the roadway.

Investigators believe that he was either the driver or passenger of a 2005 Nissan Murano that hit the concrete barrier. The car then spun out and ended up in the wrong direction of the freeway.

After extricating himself from the vehicle, Gonzalez-Vasquez eventually crossed the freeway where he was struck by a Richmond-bound vehicle whose driver did not stop.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 21-year-old Gonzalez-Vasquez, of Sunnyvale dead at the scene.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing as the driver accused of committing the hit-and-run remains at large.
