Two Dead after Fatal 7-Vehicle Collision near 605 Freeway
SEAL BEACH, CA (March 1, 2022) – Steven Harvey and Humberto Arteaga Jr. III were killed Sunday morning, in an accident on 405 Freeway.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m., on the southbound side of the freeway, near the 605 Freeway.
Per reports, a collision involving seven vehicles was caused by a wrong-way driver. However, the events leading up still remain unclear.
Investigators say the wrong-way driver was heading north in the southbound lanes of the highway. As a result, multiple vehicles collided in the area.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced two victims dead at the scene. Authorities later identified them as 21-year-old Arteaga Jr. III, of La Puente and 30-year-old Harvey, of Midway City.
Moreover, California Highway Patrol officers say Arteaga was the driver of a 2016 Honda Civic and Harvey was a passenger inside a 2012 Honda Civic.
Paramedics took the driver of the 2012 Civic, a 28-year-old Rancho Palos Verdes resident with serious injuries to Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, other medics also assessed two more people at the scene for injuries who declined hospitalization.
At this time, officials have not released further information, but an active investigation is underway. Seal Beach police ask anyone with information to call the Westminster California Highway Patrol office at 714-892-4426.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steven Harvey and Humberto Arteaga Jr. III
