22-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Fatal Crash near Mono Way
SONORA, CA (January 13, 2022) – Late Monday afternoon, Jamie Fernandez was hurt and a rider was killed in a collision on Highway 108.
According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:36 p.m., along State Highway 108.
Police said a Jeep Cherokee driven by Fernandez was heading east in the No.1 lane of Mono Way. Meanwhile, a 66-year-old motorcyclist was in the left turn lane, attempting to turn left onto Highway 108.
Per reports, both Fernandez and the motorcyclist entered the intersection at the same time, one of them failing to stop at a red light.
The Jeep ended up crashing into the front of the motorcycle, leaving the motorcyclist seriously injured. Responders took the male rider to a nearby hospital, where he later died due to the extent of his injuries.
Meanwhile, police said Fernandez was slightly injured in the crash.
At the time of the crash, investigators say the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and Jamie Fernandez had a seatbelt on.
Based on initial investigations, alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the incident.
