27-year-old Bakersfield Driver Wanted after Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 5
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 16, 2021) – Police are still looking for Jose Alberto Gutierrez, 27, after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. on Interstate 5, south of Old River Road.
According to CHP, Gutierrez, traveling south on Interstate 5 with a 2005 Chrysler when he strayed into another lane and struck with the rear of a 2006 Jayco.
He lost control of the car and eventually went off the road, then rolled over several times. Gutierrez reportedly then used a gun to take a car from a good Samaritan who pulled over and fled the area.
Tragically, officers declared the right-front passenger of the Chrysler dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to release the name of the victim.
Officers described him as a Hispanic man, 5’6 inches tall, 205 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a thin goatee.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Buttonwillow Police Department at 661-764-5580.
