3 Killed in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident on Marine Avenue
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA (December 6, 2021) – Christian Mendoza and Katie-Jay Scott died after a four-vehicle collision on Sepulveda Boulevard.
Around 9:46 p.m., officers received reports of a crash near Sepulveda Boulevard and Marine Avenue. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.
At this time, the events leading up to the collision remain unclear. However, per reports, 48-year-old Mendoza, of Redondo Beach died at the scene.
In another vehicle, 40-year-old Scott, also of Redondo Beach, died alongside a man in his 50s. The third deceased victim is yet to be named pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, at least three more people were hospitalized, one in critical condition.
The involved vehicles included a BMW, a Volkswagen and a Prius. Debris from the collision filled Sepulveda Boulevard, leading to partial closure during cleanup duties.
Authorities are still investigating the events that led to the crash. Initially, they suspected speed was a factor, resulting in a chain reaction. Once available, further details will be provided.
