Driver Arrested after Fatal Motorcycle Collision on North Salsipuedes Street
SANTA BARBARA, CA (December 3, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, Kenneth Warfield Sterling Sr. was killed in a motorcycle crash on East Cota Street.
The incident happened around 1:55 p.m., at the intersection of East Cota and Salsipuedes Street. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.
Reports suggest that the driver of a Jeep rear-ended a motorcyclist going south on the 600 block of North Salsipuedes Street. The impact ejected the rider 84 feet before he landed on the street.
In addition, Santa Barbara police say the Jeep also collided with a pick-up truck, and the motorcycle struck a parked sedan.
Authorities later arrested the Jeep driver who was identified as 48-year-old Raul Gonzalez, of Santa Barbara for driving under the influence. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with a $1,000,000 bail.
Police also identified the motorcyclist as 78-year-old Kenneth Warfield Sterling Sr., who died at the scene.
