Cyclist Injured in Wrong-Way Accident on East 5th Street in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (October 28, 2021) – Friday evening, a bicyclist was hospitalized after a car crash on Rose Avenue, in Oxnard.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m., near East 5th Street. Emergency crews arrived to the scene shortly after.
Officers say a 2017 BMW 330i driven by a 19-year-old Camarillo man was attempting to avoid a tractor-trailer that suddenly swerved into the westbound lanes.
As a result, the driver swerved into the bike lane, consequently striking a bicyclist who was only identified as a man.
Due to the impact of the crash, the bicyclist suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported him to Ventura County Medical Center for further treatment of critical wounds.
Moreover, the 19-year-old driver of the BMW did not sustain injuries and remained at the scene. Authorities say he rendered aid to the cyclist, and cooperated with the investigation.
Following preliminary investigations, officers ruled out alcohol as a factor in this crash. Meanwhile, authorities were unable to locate the tractor-trailer.
No further information has been released at this time.
