Eric Puttre Detained after Causing Police Manhunt Throughout Highway 101

TRINIDAD, CA (October 11, 2021) – Authorities arrested Eric Puttre, 28, of Trinidad after running through traffic on Highway 101 on Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol responded at Highway 101 and Patrick’s Point Drive around 8:00 a.m. after receiving reports of man running within the lanes of the highway.

The CHP first detained Puttre for breaking state law, which prohibits pedestrian access to the freeway. However, he escaped from the police as they attempted to place him in the backseat of the patrol car.

According to the police, he bolted and continued sprinting southbound in the northbound lanes of US-101. Puttre then fled into a densely forested region west of the highway, where the officer lost sight of him.

Multiple affiliated authorities, including California State Parks and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, rushed to the area to aid in locating the culprit.

Around 11 a.m., the CHP discovered and arrested Puttre near the Patrick’s Point Visitor Center.

Medics then took Puttre to Mad River Community Hospital for an evaluation and then booked into the Humboldt County jail.

At this time, authorities are conducting active investigation of the crash, once available more information will be released.
