Brandon Duane Cleland Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 20 [Willits, CA]
38-Year-Old Man Identified after Fatal Collision near Marina Drive
WILLITS, CA (October 8, 2021) – 38-year-old Brandon Duane Cleland was identified after a fatal crash Monday afternoon, on September 27.
Officers responded to the scene on Highway 20, near Marina Drive around 4:11 p.m. Per reports, Cleland was driving a Dodge Ram pickup-truck, hauling another Dodge Ram pickup-truck on a flatbed trailer.
As Cleland was heading east, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the double yellow lines. There, he collided head-on with a westbound 2017 Freight driven by a 26-year-old Ukiah man.
Medics pronounced Cleland dead at the scene, due to the extent of his injuries. In addition, the box truck driver was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Following investigations, officers determined that neither alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. Although, an active investigation is still currently underway.
