Injuries Reported after Two-Vehicle Crash on Challen Avenue

RIVERSIDE, CA (October 1, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, a pedestrian was critically injured in a crash on Van Buren Boulevard.

The collision occurred around 12:05 p.m., at the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and Challen Avenue. Riverside Police responded to the area shortly after.

According to reports, the 47-year-old male driver of a Chevrolet Colorado was heading south on Van Buren. For reasons unknown, the man drove through a red light at an unknown rate of speed.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Toyota Corolla driver initiated a left turn onto Challen Avenue. As a result, the two vehicles collided. The impact sent the Chevy off the roadway, where it struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk.

Due to the impact, the male pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was said to be in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the two drivers remained uninjured and stayed at the scene for questioning.

Later on, authorities learned that the two motorists were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Riverside authorities arrested both drivers from DUI and blocked the intersection for several hours to investigate the two-vehicle crash.
