4 Pronounced Dead, Multiple Hospitalized after Bus Accident near Rock Island

VOLTAGE, WA (February 17, 2025) – Sunday afternoon, a bus collision on Highway 28 claimed the lives of Michael Meacham and Amelia Montoya.

Authorities responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m., near Rock Island on February 9th.

The incident involved a 2007 Toyota Camry occupied by two 17-year-olds, a passenger bus driven by a 66-year-old man with 17 passengers, and a Chevrolet Traverse occupied by three people.

Per reports, the Camry and the Traverse were traveling in the westbound lanes when the Camry attempted to overtake the other vehicle. As a result, the Camry collided head-on with the bus. The impact pushed the Camry into the Chevrolet Traverse.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the Camry driver and the bus driver dead at the scene.

Moreover, two 17-year-olds inside the Camry sustained fatal injuries. Although, authorities have not yet released their names or place of residency.

Meanwhile, medics transported several others to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

In addition, the occupants of the Traverse did not sustain any injuries. Police have not released information on the conditions of the victims.

Troopers blocked the highway for several hours, and it was reopened by midnight. Further investigation is currently ongoing.
