79-Year-Old Husband and 77-Year-Old Wife Pronounced Dead after Multi-Car Collision near Fletcher Parkway

LA MESA, CA (February 17, 2025) – Monday, James Allina and his wife Rosalyn Allina were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 8.

Authorities responded to the scene around 7:20 p.m., along the eastbound lanes of the freeway, near Fletcher Parkway. 

Investigators say an eastbound Toyota sedan became stationary with its lights off in the third lane for reasons unknown. 

Shortly after, a 34-year-old woman driving a Dodge SUV with a 4-year-old male passenger failed to avoid the Toyota on time, resulting in a collision. 

Meanwhile, the 63-year-old female driver of a Kia sedan struck the Dodge, pushing it into the Toyota in the far left lane. 

Debris from the initial collision also damaged a passing Mercedes, police added. 

Responding medical personnel pronounced the male Toyota driver dead at the scene. His female passenger was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. 

The medical examiner’s office later identified the two victims as 79-year-old James Allina and his wife 77-year-old Rosalyn Allina. The couple are residents of La Mesa. 

Paramedics also rushed the woman and the child in the SUV to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for medical evaluation. Officials said the driver of the Kia suffered minor injuries. 

The driver of the Mercedes remained uninjured from the incident. La Mesa Officials will provide more information surrounding the multi-vehicle crash once available.
