Officer Hospitalized after Head-On Collision near South 4th Street

GROVER BEACH, CA (February 12, 2025) – Sunday evening, a DUI collision involving a patrol officer led to the arrest of Steven Tomis.

Police responded to the reports of a disturbance at the 400 block of Leoni Drive near South 4th Street. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that the driver of a 1974 Ford pickup-truck crashed into a secondary vehicle. However, the driver—identified as 62-year-old Steven Tomis—attempted to flee the scene.

Reports indicated that Tomis accelerated and steered his vehicle into one of the responding officer’s patrol cars. 

The impact of the crash left both vehicles with significant damage. Responding paramedics transported the officer to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

Meanwhile, authorities arrested and booked Tomis into San Luis Obispo County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, and DUI.
