Five Fatalities Reported after Four Vehicles Collided Including a Freightliner near Mile Marker 420

ZAVALA COUNTY, TX (February 11, 2025) – Tuesday, Pedro Urquiza, Estanislao Jaimes, Diana Lopez, Jose Rodriguez, and Maria Pineda died in a crash.

The violent multi-vehicle collision happened around 12:45 a.m. near mile marker 420 on January 21st.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a white 2006 Ford van was heading east at the time. Moreover, another white 2006 Ford van towing a trailer rear-ended the first van.

Furthermore, a Ford F-150 pickup-truck driven by 48-year-old Jose Artemio Rodriguez, was stopped at the Nueces River Bridge. His passengers then signaled a white 2019 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer to stop.

However, a passing Freightliner failed to slow down and crashed into the three vehicles.

Eventually, three passengers of the first van; 63-year-old Urquiza, 60-year-old Jaimes, 43-year-old Lopez, and 48-year-old Rodriguez, and 60-year-old Pineda, who was the driver of the second van, died at the scene.

Meanwhile, seven other people suffered injuries, and responders transported them to Uvalde Memorial Hospital for further treatment. The truck driver refused to receive treatment.

At this time, no other information was added by the authorities, and the crash remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Pedro Urquiza, Estanislao Jaimes, Diana Lopez, Jose Artemio Rodriguez, and Maria Pineda.
