66-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Police-Vehicle Collision near 6th Street
ROSWELL, NM (February 11, 2025) – Wednesday morning, a police-vehicle crash on Main Street claimed the life of Howard Peterson.
Authorities responded to the scene just before 10:00 a.m., near 6th and 7th Street on January 22nd.
As detailed by investigations, a Roswell Police Department officer was responding to a multiple-injury call with emergency lights and sirens on, heading south.
An Oldsmobile driven by 66-year-old Peterson made a left turn and collided with the officer.
Due to the impact of the crash, Peterson and the officer both sustained injuries, and paramedics transported them to a hospital.
Despite life-saving efforts, Peterson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The officer was released afterward.
Moreover, Roswell Police Chief Lance Bateman extended his condolences, and further investigation is still ongoing on whether the officer following proper protocol.
