64-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Pickup-Truck Crash on Highway 62/82
LUBBOCK, TX (February 10, 2025) – Wednesday, Virginia Castano-Marquez died and Karrie Merritt was hurt in a crash on East County Road 6300.
Authorities responded to the scene around 2:10 p.m., near Highway 62/82 on January 29th.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Castano-Marquez parked her Acura RDX on the eastbound shoulder of US 62/82.
Shortly after, Merritt who was driving a westbound Ford F-250 towing a trailer, rear-ended the Acura.
Due to the impact of the crash, 64-year-old Castano-Marquez succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, 49-year-old Merritt sustained minor injuries and responders transported her to University Medical Center.
Troopers did not release any additional information, and the crash remains under active investigation.
