Melvin Joseph Weibel Dead, Serene Francie Rosenberg Arrested after Head-On Crash on Golden Lantern Street [Dana Point, CA]
88-Year-Old Dana Point Man Killed in SUV Vs. Van Collision near Stonehill Drive
DANA POINT, CA (February 6, 2025) – Friday, Serene Rosenberg was arrested and Melvin Joseph Weibel died in a crash on Golden Lantern Street.
Deputies responded to the scene around 6:15 p.m., at the Golden Lantern Street and Stonehill Drive intersection.
Based on the initial investigation, a westbound Land Rover SUV turned left against a red arrow light.
As a result, the Land Rover collided with a Ford Transit traveling eastbound on Stonehill Drive.
First responders pronounced the passenger of the Transit van dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 88-year-old Melvin Joseph Weibel, of Dana Point.
Meanwhile, the driver of the van was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the crash, the officers arrested the Land Rover driver – 48-year-old Serene Francie Rosenberg – for suspected DUI. Officials booked into Orange County Jail for murder and driving under the influence causing injury.
