72-Year-Old Tehachapi Woman Dies in Pedestrian Crash near Cummings Valley Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 6, 2025) – Wednesday evening, an auto-pedestrian collision on Highway 202 took the life of Candace Lorraine Rios

The fatal collision happened around 9:24 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 202, north of Cummings Valley Road.

The reason behind the incident remains under investigation. But authorities claimed the person was struck by a vehicle along the highway. 

Responding medical units rushed the victim to Kern Medical where she died from her injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

Later, the Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased pedestrian as 72-year-old Candace Lorraine Rios of Teachapi. 

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. Anyone with additional information regarding the fatal pedestrian crash is asked to call them at 661-396-6600.
