80-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Three-Vehicle Collision near South Presa Street
SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 5, 2025) – Sunday, Virginia Alaniz was killed and Roman DeLeon was arrested after a DUI crash on Southeast Loop 410.
The collision occurred around 4:00 p.m., on January 26th at the intersection of South Presa Street and the Southeast Loop 410 access road.
San Antonio Police Department troopers say the incident involved three sedans. One vehicle was driven by 51-year-old DeLeon and the other one was occupied by four people, including 80-year-old Alaniz.
Investigation showed that DeLeon was driving at high speeds approaching the intersection while the two other vehicles were stopped at a red light.
For DUI related reasons, DeLeon failed to stop and crashed into the two vehicles.
Due to the impact of the collision, Alaniz succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man and another passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment of their injuries.
During cleanup and preliminary duties, officers determined that DeLeon was intoxicated at the time. Consequently, authorities arrested DeLeon and booked him jail, where he faces intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.
No additional update were released, and the incident remains under investigation.
No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Virginia Alaniz.
