66-Year-Old Woman Dead after SUV Vs. Pedestrian Collision near North Vulcan Avenue

ENCINITAS, CA (January 23, 2025) – Sunday night, one woman was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on North Coast Highway 101.

Dispatchers received calls around 7:00 p.m., at the 900 block of North Coast Highway near North Vulcan Avenue.

Based on the initial investigation, the driver of a light-colored SUV struck a woman who was attempting to cross the road. The driver then sped off without providing assistance to the victim. 

Responding medical personnel transported the female pedestrian to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials only identified the deceased victim as a 66-year-old woman.

Investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol impaired the driver, but they are continuing the investigation.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.

San Diego County officials are asking those who witnessed the North Coast Highway 101 hit-and-run crash to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
