Woman Killed in Police Pursuit Collision near Moody Street

LA PALMA, CA (January 21, 2025) – Wednesday afternoon, authorities arrested Anthony Hanzel after a fatal pursuit crash on La Palma Avenue.

The chase started on North Gilbert Street and West Malvern Avenue in Fullerton after reports of suspected theft in the area. 

According to police, officers attempted to pull over a white Nissan Rouge involved in a non-injury collision near Brookhurst Road and Orangethorpe Avenue. 

Officers lost the suspect momentarily before being spotted in the area of La Palma Avenue and Walker Street.

Reports indicate that the suspect’s vehicle sped past the red light and collided with a blue BMW at the La Palma Avenue and Moody Street intersection. 

Police said the woman in her 50s driving the BMW sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Her name remains undisclosed to the public at this time. 

Officials also transported the suspect, 40-year-old Anthony Hanzel of Anaheim, to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Hanzel was later booked into jail for hit-and-run, petty theft, and felony evading.
