15-Year-Old San Jose Boy Killed in Solo-Vehicle Collision under Interstate 680 Overpass
WALNUT CREEK, CA (January 21, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, Gerardo Rosales Murillo was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Newell Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene around 2:36 a.m., near Interstate 680.
According to reports, the teen driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed into a freeway support pillar for reasons unknown.
Emergency crews performed emergency CPR on Murillo, due to the extent of his condition. Responding EMTs transported him to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he died from his injuries.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased passenger as 15-year-old Gerardo Rosales Murillo, of San Jose.
Authorities said there were five juveniles in the vehicle, three of which fled the scene after the crash.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old driving the car was arrested for felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. Police are working to determine whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
