88-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Semi-Truck Crash near Port of Harlingen
HARLINGEN, TX (January 14, 2025) – Friday evening, Robert Rufus Dickens was killed in a semi-truck collision on Farm-to-Market Road 106.
Authorities responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m., near the Port of Harlingen-Cameron County on December 27th.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, the collision involved a white 2016 Peterbilt semi-tanker and a black 2014 Cadillac SRX, driven by Dickens.
Investigators say the Peterbilt truck was making a turn into a business area at the time. Meanwhile, Dickens was heading west and failed to slow down, resulting in a collision.
Consequently, medical responders arrived and found Dickens with life-threatening wounds. Crews rushed 88-year-old Dickens to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he did not survive his injuries.
Authorities have not added any additional information. The Texas DPS investigators are currently handling the remainder of the investigation.
