88-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck in Senior Care Facility near Guadalupe Road

GILBERT, AZ (January 14, 2025) – Friday, Mary Haapala died and Joshua Degolier was arrested after a care facility crash on Lindsay Road.

Police officers received calls around 10:00 p.m., near Guadalupe Road on January 10th.

Per reports, Joshua Michael Degolier, 33, lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a senior living facility. His car veered across the parking lot, mounted the sidewalk, and collided with the building’s wall, ultimately landing in a resident’s bedroom.

Mary Lillian Haapala, 88, was asleep when the collision occurred. Emergency responders arrived to discover that Haapala had sustained fatal injuries.

Meanwhile, Degolier fled the scene on foot but was later located and charged. Police officers suspect that impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, and officials will update the public with more information as it becomes available.
