72-Year-Old Palm Desert Man Pronounced Dead after Bicycle Collision near San Pablo Avenue

PALM DESERT, CA (January 9, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, Patrick Petre was fatally injured in a bicycle accident on Fred Waring Drive.

Authorities received calls around 6:30 p.m., near San Pablo Avenue.

Reports indicate that the driver of a vehicle struck a bicyclist in the area for reasons unknown.

Responding units from Cal Fire treated the bicyclist at the scene before transporting him to a Palm Springs hospital.

Despite life-saving efforts, medical personnel later pronounced the victim deceased the following day. The county coroner identified the deceased person as 72-year-old Petre, of Palm Desert.

Based on the sheriff’s department spokesperson, intoxication is not a suspect factor in the incident. The driver involved in the incident remained at the site and cooperated with authorities.

Palm Desert Officials will release more information about the deadly Fred Waring Drive bicycle accident once available.
