One Pronounced Dead after Bicycle Collision near Washington Drive

BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 8, 2025) – Tuesday evening, one person was killed in a bicycle accident on Airport Drive.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., just south of Washington Drive.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a northbound 2009 Honda Accord struck someone who had fallen off their bicycle in the number two lane. 

Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the person riding the bicycle dead at the scene. Police said the Accord driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. 

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased bicyclist once their relatives have been notified. 

Bakersfield Officials closed the northbound lanes of Airport Drive for investigation.
