76-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Collision near U.S. 18 Military Road

SAN JUAN, TX (December 26, 2024) – Friday afternoon, a semi-truck accident on Stewart Road resulted in the death of Rogelio Benavidez-Urrea.

Dispatchers received calls around 1:50 p.m., near U.S. 18 Military Road on December 13th.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Honda UVP, driven by Benavidez-Urrea, and a semi-truck collided.

Per reports, Benavidez-Urrea was heading west on U.S. 18 Military Road while the semi-truck was heading north on Stewart Road. There, the semi-truck ran through a red light and struck Benavidez-Urrea.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 76-year-old deceased.

Meanwhile, paramedics took the semi-truck driver to South Texas Health System McAllen for further treatment.

At this time, it was unknown if the semi-truck driver was charged, and further investigation is currently underway.
