Samantha Alwan and 1 Other Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 27 [Lubbock, TX]
29-Year-Old Firefighter Killed in Wrong-Way Accident near County Road 5100
LUBBOCK, TX (December 23, 2024) – Sunday, a wrong-way collision on Interstate 27 claimed the life of Samantha Alwan and another driver.
Authorities responded to the scene around 6:00 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway near County Road 5100 on December 15th.
For reasons under investigation, the driver of a 2014 Ford Escape was heading south in the northbound lanes.
As a result, the Ford collided head-on with a northbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Alwan.
First responders located the Ford engulfed in flames upon arrival. In addition, crews say both vehicles were totaled as a result of the crash.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 29-year-old Alwan and the other driver deceased at the scene.
Police added that Alwan was a firefighter at Plainview Fire Department. The department released a statement on the loss of their comrade.
Following preliminary duties, authorities say Alwan was wearing her seatbelt at that time. Authorities will share more details as they become available.
