55-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Building Collision at Imperial Sky Motel

LAS CRUCES, NM (December 23, 2024) – Friday, Kari Scholin died and Alan Leyva-Vasquez was arrested after a crash on West Picacho Avenue.

Dispatchers received calls around 11:30 a.m., at the Imperial Sky Motel near West Picacho Avenue on December 6th.

According to reports, Leyva-Vasquez was driving a Chevrolet Suburban and reversed into the Imperial Sky Motel. There, the Chevy hit 55-year-old Scholin and another 59-year-old man.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced Scholin dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the other man sustained minor injuries.

Following preliminary duties, police arrested Leyva-Vasquez and took him into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he faces one felony count of vehicular homicide.

There is no additional information publicly available about the crash at this time, but authorities will release more details once they are accessible.
