8-Year-Old Child Pronounced Dead after Head-On Collision near East Fork Road

AZUSA, CA (December 18, 2024) – Early Thursday evening, a head-on accident on State Route 39 claimed the life of Xavier Ocegueda.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 5:00 p.m., near East Fork Road on December 4th.

Investigators say the driver of a Honda According was heading south on the freeway and veered into the northbound lanes. As a result, the Honda collided head-on with an oncoming Subaru Forester.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced a young occupant from the Honda dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 8-year-old Ocegueda, of La Puente.

Paramedics also took two other passengers from the Honda, a 5-year-old girl and a woman, to Los Angeles General Medical Center with moderate to major injuries.

Moreover, medics transported the female driver of the Subaru to the same hospital in serious condition.

Investigators described the Subaru’s passengers as a 3-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and a man. Emergency personnel took the man to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with critical injuries, and they took the children to Los Angeles General Medical with minor wounds.

In addition, crews took the wrong-way driver to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Following preliminary duties, police officers arrested him before eventually releasing him.

A SigAlert was issued for six hours while troopers cleared the scene.

Law enforcement has not disclosed any further details about the crash to the public at this time.
