One Driver Fatally Injured in Solo-Car Crash near Deer Valley Road
PHOENIX, AZ (December 18, 2024) – Monday evening, one driver was pronounced dead after a single-car accident on Interstate 17.
The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of the freeway around 9:20 p.m., near Deer Valley Road on December 2nd.
Per the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a vehicle was traveling at high speeds in the southbound lanes and failed to negotiate a curve. As a result, the driver lost control and crashed into a pole and a concrete sign.
The impact caused the vehicle to ignite in flames, trapping the driver inside before they were able to escape.
Despite life-saving efforts, medical personnel later pronounced the involved driver dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.
Emergency crews shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during clearing operations.
Law enforcement has not disclosed any further details about the deadly single-car accident on Interstate 17 to the public.
