30-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near West Point Loma Boulevard

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 10, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, Michael Casey Ellis was killed in a pedestrian accident on Nimitz Boulevard.

Around 5:00 a.m., first responders arrived to the intersection of West Point Loma and Nimitz Boulevard.

Investigators say the driver of a black 2018 BMW sedan struck a jogger who crossed against a red light. Witnesses say the BMW was racing a white Ford Mustang at the time.

In addition, a red Dodge Charger was also spotted driving at a high rate of speed and none of the vehicles involved pulled over after the impact. 

Responding medical personnel pronounced the male jogger dead at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the deceased victim as 30-year-old Ellis.

Following the crash, the officers recovered the suspect’s BMW in the area of Canon Street and Rosecrans Street. At this time, the investigators are working to identify the driver who fled on foot.

Relatives shared with reporters that Ellis, known as Casey, was a Louisiana native who had come to San Diego for work as a safety engineer on the Gaylord Pacifica project. They noted that his passing occurred just weeks before his 31st birthday.
