Irma Pacheco Matias Killed, Man Injured in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 99 [Bakersfield, CA]
50-Year-Old Madera Woman Pronounced Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision near Houghton Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 10, 2024) – Sunday morning, a hit-and-run along Highway 99 killed Irma Pacheco Matias and left a man hurt.
Police officers responded to the scene around 1:00 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Houghton Road.
California Highway Patrol officers say the driver of a grey Ford compact sedan struck a man and a woman who were walking across the lanes.
Upon impact, the driver did not stop to render aid to the victims and fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Despite life-saving efforts, first responders pronounced the female pedestrian dead at the scene. She was later identified as 50-year-old Matias, of Madera.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the 46-year-old man walking beside Matias to Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries.
Bakersfield Officials are asking those who witnessed the Highway 99 hit-and-run to contact the BPD at 661-327-7111. Once available, further details will be provided.
