Hemet Public Works Employee Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash near Kirby Street
HEMET, CA (December 10, 2024) – Thursday evening, a suspected DUI collision on Acacia Avenue claimed the life of Derek Holt.
Authorities responded to the scene around 8:00 p.m., near Kirby Street after receiving multiple dispatch calls.
Based on the initial investigation, a compact sedan collided with a parked municipal truck while traveling westbound on Acacia.
The impact of the crash injured an employee of the Hemet Department of Public Works sitting on the municipal vehicle.
Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics pronounced the city employee dead at the scene.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased victim as 40-year-old Holt, of Hemet.
Following the crash, California Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver for suspicion of felony DUI. Police booked the suspect into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
