44-Year-Old Woman Killed, Child Critically Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Preston Road

UNIVERSITY PARK, TX (December 10, 2024) – Friday, Ana Gonzalez Perez died and Alexis Ruiz was arrested after a car crash on Lovers Lane.

Dispatchers received calls around 6:30 p.m., near Preston Road on November 22nd.

Police officers say the driver of an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado was traveling at high rates of speed and failed to stop for a red-light.

As a result, the Chevy struck a northbound vehicle, pushing the northbound vehicle into three other cars that were stopped at the intersection.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced 44-year-old Perez dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the child to a nearby hospital for further treatment of serious injuries.

Per reports, the suspect fled the scene and luckily, a bystander was able to grab him. Officers later arrested him on Tulane Street and took him into the Dallas County Jail.

Police later identified the suspect as 32-year-old Alexis Ruiz.

Ruiz was charged with second-degree collision involving injury or death and third-degree collision involving injury or death with bonds of $50,000 and $30,000.
