Man Fatally Injured in Car Accident on Interstate 25 [Las Cruces, NM]
Man Pronounced Dead after Police-Vehicle Collision near Las Alturas
LAS CRUCES, NM (November 26, 2024) – Monday evening, one man was fatally injured in a car accident on Interstate 25.
The New Mexico State Police Department received calls just before 6:30 p.m., near the Las Alturas area on November 4th.
Per reports, the incident involved a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office unit and another car. Officers say two units were responding to another incident involving an injured child at the time.
For reasons under investigation, a vehicle pulled out slowly onto the freeway, resulting in a collision with the police vehicle. The impact caused serious injuries to the involved officer and female driver.
Paramedics transported both occupants to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, medics pronounced a male passenger who was found unconscious, dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name or place of residency.
Police say that emergency equipment was activated while they were responding to the crash.
No additional information was added by the officials, and the New Mexico State Police is handling the investigation.
