35-Year-Old Morgan Hill Man Dies in Four-Vehicle Collision near Live Oak Avenue
GILROY, CA (November 25, 2024) – Thursday afternoon, Robert Valderrama died and Leonel Orozco was hurt in a car crash on Monterey Road.
California Highway Patrol officers received reports around 1:55 p.m., near Live Oak Avenue.
Investigators say the driver of a southbound Honda failed to stop at a red light at the intersection. As a result, the Honda collided with an eastbound Freightliner driven by 45-year-old Daniel Arendt.
The impact of the collision sent the Honda to the northbound lanes of Monterey where it collided head-on with a Jeep driven by 47-year-old Orozco.
Debris from the Honda and Orozco’s vehicle hit the Ford in the same lane, driven by 37-year-old Ricky Reyna.
Responding medical personnel pronounced the Honda driver dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office later identified him as 35-year-old Valderrama, of Morgan Hill.
Paramedics also transported Orozco to a nearby hospital for treatment of major injuries. Crews say Reyna and Arendt remained uninjured from the incident.
At this time, police are asking those who witnessed the crash to contact CHP officer E. Valesquez at (408) 427-0700.
